Managed IT services in Corpus Christi have a coastal job to do: keep a business running through storm season, water restrictions and the payment-fraud scams that have already targeted local organizations.

Corpus Christi sits on one of the busiest energy shipping channels in the country. The Port of Corpus Christi describes itself as the third largest U.S. port by total waterborne tonnage, and its customers moved 203.4 million tons through the ship channel in 2025. The coast also draws visitors: Tourism Economics counted 5.1 million visitors to Corpus Christi in 2025, spending $1.2 billion.

Most of the businesses behind those numbers are small. U.S. Census Bureau figures for Nueces County show 31,301 nonemployer businesses (2024) and 8,111 employer establishments (2023), belonging to 6,660 employer firms. Very few of them have an IT department, yet they face local risks that are easy to underestimate, including hurricanes, a water supply that has swung from near-emergency to Stage 1 in a single year, and payment fraud aimed at local organizations. This guide looks at three Corpus Christi problems, each backed by a published source, and what managed IT services, web design and automation actually do about them.

Challenge 01

Storms and an Unsettled Water Supply Disrupt Operations

When Hurricane Harvey made landfall near Rockport as a Category 4 storm in August 2017, about 30 miles northeast of Corpus Christi, the National Weather Service reports that nearly the entire city lost power for a couple of days and the Port of Corpus Christi shut down for a record six days[4]. In Port Aransas, more than 450 businesses had major damage[4]. Remote work is not a habit in the region to fall back on: the Coastal Bend's 2026-2031 economic development strategy reports that only 6.2% of local workers work from home, compared with 15.1% nationally[10].

Water has been the other swing factor. In April 2026, a draft city plan called for a 25% cut in water use for all customers, and industrial complexes that use more than half of the region's water were drilling their own wells[5]. A rainy July pushed the projected emergency date out to September 2028, and on August 4 the city eased to Stage 2 after nearly 600 days in Stage 3[6]. On August 27 it moved to Stage 1, its first since March 2024[8]. By late September, combined storage in Lake Corpus Christi and Choke Canyon was 39.3% and slipping, the Mary Rhodes Pipeline was running at reduced pumping through mid-November for pump station work, and major new supplies such as seawater desalination had not yet come online[7]. Small businesses felt the earlier restrictions directly: one local irrigation company told KRIS 6 its business fell 75% under Stage 3 and it cut staff from 10 to 4[9].

The AI solution

A business continuity plan backed by cloud systems and managed IT services, so the business can keep serving customers through power outages, closures and supply restrictions.

How it works

Core systems such as email, files, phones, scheduling and accounting run in the cloud, so staff can work from anywhere with a laptop and a hotspot, and remote access is set up and tested before it is needed. Backups are automated, kept off-site and tested. Automated text and email updates tell customers about closures or delays. For businesses affected by water rules, simple dashboards track usage against limits and alert managers before a threshold is reached, and service businesses can quickly update their website and booking options when restrictions change.

Challenge 02

Payment Fraud Is Hitting Local Organizations

In August 2025, Nueces County reported a suspected loss of about $2 million after payments were sent to the wrong place. The county suspended all wire transfers and retained forensic experts[11]. Officials later said scammers had misdirected county payments through a phishing email scheme; the county recovered the full $1,936,991.23 with help from its bank and said it had tightened internal controls[12].

Most organizations are not that lucky. Phishing that changes payment instructions, often called business email compromise, works the same way against a contractor, a marine services company or a medical office as it does against a county. A single email that looks like it came from a known vendor can redirect a large payment, and a small business has far fewer ways to absorb that loss.

The AI solution

Email security, IT support in Corpus Christi offices and managed IT combined with automated payment verification, so no single email can change where money goes.

How it works

AI-based email filtering flags look-alike domains, spoofed senders and messages that ask for urgent payment changes. Multi-factor authentication protects mailboxes from takeover, and staff know exactly where to report a suspicious message. In the accounting workflow, any change to vendor bank details automatically triggers a hold and a call-back to a phone number already on file, and payments above a set amount need a second approval before release.

Challenge 03

Visitors and Locals Find Businesses on Their Phones

Tourism Economics, part of Oxford Economics, estimates that 5.06 million visitors came to Corpus Christi in 2025: 2.23 million day visitors spending about $178 each and 2.83 million overnight visitors spending about $279 each[2]. The visitor economy supported 13,985 jobs, including 11,078 direct jobs, for a total economic impact of $1.7 billion[2]. Locals are just as mobile: the Coastal Bend strategy reports that 43% of households in the region rely solely on smartphones for internet access[10].

Hotels, restaurants, charters, attractions, contractors and retailers compete for those customers, and many of them are searching on a phone, often the same day. A slow website, missing hours or a booking form that does not work on mobile sends them somewhere else. Many local businesses also collect a phone number or email at booking and never use it again, when turning a one-time visit into a repeat booking, review or referral is often cheaper than finding a new customer.

The AI solution

Mobile-first web design, local SEO and customer retention automation that use the contact data businesses already collect to bring guests back, without adding work for front-line staff.

How it works

Website design for Corpus Christi businesses starts with the phone: fast pages, click-to-call, maps, current hours and booking that works in a few taps. Corpus Christi SEO work keeps service pages, business listings and reviews accurate so day-trippers and residents find the business when they search. Bookings and purchases then feed a simple CRM, and automated messages go out before arrival, after a visit with a review request, and ahead of the next season with a return offer. AI assistants answer common questions by chat or text and pass anything unusual to staff.

Frequently asked questions

What do managed IT services in Corpus Christi cover for a small business?

Managed IT services cover the day-to-day running and protection of a business's technology: IT support for staff, monitoring and patching of computers and accounts, automated and tested backups, email security and multi-factor authentication, and continuity planning so the business can operate remotely during storms or closures. For Coastal Bend businesses without in-house IT, a managed provider handles this continuously instead of only when something breaks.

Does Hatty AI provide managed IT services in Corpus Christi?

Yes. Hatty AI is based in Cibolo, Texas, near San Antonio, and works with businesses across the Coastal Bend and nationwide. Most IT services, web design and automation work is delivered remotely.

What is the simplest way to protect my business from payment fraud?

Turn on multi-factor authentication for email, and adopt a rule that any change to a vendor's bank details is verified by calling a phone number you already have on file, never one in the email. Automation can enforce that rule so it does not depend on someone remembering.

Do businesses that rely on word of mouth still need web design in Corpus Christi, or SEO?

Usually, yes. Even referred customers look a business up on their phone before calling, and visitors who do not know the area depend on search results and maps. A fast, mobile-friendly website with accurate hours and services, plus basic local SEO, makes sure those searches lead to you.

Is customer retention automation only for large hotels?

No. A charter operator, restaurant or shop with a booking system or point-of-sale already has the data needed. Automated follow-ups, review requests and seasonal offers can be set up without new staff.

Can Hatty AI help with SEO in Corpus Christi?

Yes. SEO and local marketing are part of our services. For Corpus Christi businesses that depend on visitors as well as locals, that means a fast mobile site, accurate Google Business Profile details and pages that answer the questions people search for before they visit, so you show up when someone nearby looks for what you sell.

How can a Corpus Christi business stay running during a storm or water restrictions?

Move email, files and phones to cloud services that keep working when the building is closed, keep tested backups outside the area, and write down who does what during an outage. Managed IT services can set this up and test it before hurricane season, rather than during it.
