    About the firm

    Five decades of judgment.

Sterling & Hayes was founded in San Francisco in 1973 by two trial lawyers — Eleanor Sterling and David Hayes — who believed that great counsel begins with great listening. Fifty-three years later, the firm has grown to 248 attorneys across four offices, but our practice is still organized around small, partner-led teams.

We are the firm clients call when the matter is consequential — the cross-border acquisition, the bet-the-company trial, the once-in-a-generation transition. Our work spans nine practice areas and every federal circuit, and it has earned us recognition from Chambers USA, The American Lawyer, Law360, and our peers.
